Election Readiness

To all OSSTF members,

As a follow up to our lunch and learn yesterday with members, Alison Rothwell and I were able to secure a one on one meeting this morning with our local Welland Riding MPP, Cindy Forster from the NDP.

Cindy was very eager to learn about the details of our recent lay offs as well as exchange ideas with us regarding how to improve students learning conditions and our working conditions on a go forward basis.

We spoke to her specifically about the problems of accountability, tuition costs, poor level of funding from governments and the need for dedicated funding for support staff positions at Ontario universities.

We passed on some specific information for her and her team to review and briefly discussed having her and possibly the NDP critic for education, Teresa Armstrong, visit us in the fall of 2014.

We discussed the current election campaign and expressed our message to members has been to get out and exercise your right to vote.

This election is suffering from bad timing due to many factors and Cindy asked us to spread the word that her campaign would appreciate any volunteers that could help out on Election day tomorrow.

If anyone is available to assist in any way, and for any amount of time tomorrow, please feel free to email Mike Haines at hainesm.ndp.on.ca

Don't forget, the polls are open from 9am-9pm tomorrow.

Tomorrow, I will vote for education.

Norm
